Sun Jia Tong Western Style House
No. 51, Dongkeng village, Lieyu township, Kinmen county

Introduction
  • The building is a five foot way western style house with front hall and two side houses. The flanks of the front hall was laid with granite slabs in centipede style, which is rarely seen among Kinmen's western style houses. The "centipede laying style" is also referred to as "fish scale laying style" by the locals.
  • On the flanks of the second floor of the five foot way are arched lintels made of red bricks, as well as calabash style windows at the center of the gables.

Historic Site
  • Sun Jia Tong who engaged in grocery business and farming, built the house together with his sons. It is a special case in Kinmen as he had never gone abroad but still built the western style house. He used different materials than other western style houses as he was not as rich as overseas Chinese businessman. The setting of this five foot way house with front hall and two side houses is still a classic example even though it is with less decoration.
  • The footing of wall is different from other conventional buildings as it was finely laid with granite slabs in arrow style, which is also referred to as fish scale laying style (or centipede laying style) by the locals. A delicate folding screen stationed in the living room possesses high value of art.
