Lin Tian Lai Western Style House
No. 13, Xifang Village, Lieyu Township, Kinmen County

Built in 1921
  • The building was designed with 2 sections. The back section is a two-story five foot way with brick pillars and brick arches, fineness can be found in its simple, understated beauty. The facade of the outer wall features Renaissance style scratch painting. The style and decoration of the building is a key example in Kinmen.
 
Introduction
  • The facade of the five foot way was made of traditional smoked bricks and red bricks in "Dozhiqi" style.
  • The corridor of the five foot way was built with smoked brick pillars and brackets. With the second floor designed with brick arches, enriching the facade of the building and making the overall decoration simple and elegant. You can walk to the roof of the side houses through the entrances at the two sides of the balcony. The entrance gate was made of bricks with inscriptions above it.
  • The middle part of the parapet in front of the building was made of clay with oyster powder applied, carving with a shield at the center and curled grasses at the two sides.

  • Lin Tian Lai was an overseas Chinese businessman in Brunei. His son-in-law Lin Tian zhu was an important painter in Lieyu. This was the house that Lin Tian Zhu lived in and is also a representative building of overseas Kinmen businessmen in Brunei. The interior decoration is also one of the great masterpieces of Lin Tian zhu.
  • The brick arches on the second floor are with different heights, which is valuable and different from other western style buildings in the area. The painting on the facade is also out of ordinary.
