Chaste Maiden
The story of her resistance to rioters to keep chastity will spread generations. People from all over the world will come to worship.
Her virtue is as pure as a jade, as elegant as an orchid.


The Stories of Chaste Maiden

In 1954

One of the stories is that a maiden Wang picked up goods at the coast. Unfortunately, she encountered several rioters and was forced to jump into sea in a hurry and was killed. Her corpse floated to the coast of Guishan in Qingqi, Lieyu. When Qingqi people found and buried her, her face was still as good as a live people. At that night, the maiden carried and told a spirit medium Lee that her name was Wang Yu Lan. (A Record of Chaste Maiden Temple 1995)

The other is that a maiden's corpse floated to the coast of Guishan. Her face was still as good as a live people when the garrison Liu found her. Out of pity, Liu buried her. Then, Liu suddenly carried as a woman and said “My name is Wang Yu Lan, I was born and lived in Shiamen. When I picked up shells at coast, several rioters came and wanted to rape me. As I resisted, they killed me and threw my body into sea. (A record of Chastity Shrine, October, 1956)

In 1956

The locals funded the money and requested 81th division of ROC troops to build "Chastity Shrine" at the hillside of Shigu Mountain.

In 1978

The overseas Chinese businessmen in Brunei and local businessmen provided a land and raised funds to rebuild the "Chaste Maiden Temple". The cemetery is also relocated to the temple.

In 1980

An arch of Chaste Maiden Temple was erected by "Haipeng" garrison.

In 1992

The temple suffered from pest and termite damage. Fortunately, some people from Taipei provided fund to renovate the temple with reinforced concrete.
