Baozhang Temple
Qianbu Village, Lieyu Township, Kinmen County
Constructed in Ming dynasty.
- The temple was built in Ming dynasty, mainly worships Xuantian Emperor, Three Great Emperor-Officials, Third Prince, Fertility Goddess (fresco) and God of Blessing and Virtue (fresco). According to Yang's family, Baozhang Temple had been ruined by gun attacks and was rebuilt in 1969.
- The frescoes of the temple were completed by Lin Tian Zhu, a great artist in Lieyu.
Introduction
- The "one entrance" styled temple was built with flat ridge. The facade is with a sign of "Baozhang Temple" as well as scroll styled blessing frescos on the top. Two elegant round windows with bamboo styled railings flanked by the gate.
- The frescoes of the temple were painted by master Lin Tian Zhu. The content of these lively black and white paintings includes Fertility Goddess, God of Blessing and Virtue, Eight Immortals, Gate Gods and histories.
Historic Site
- Master Lin Tian Zhu's black and white sequential frescos only remain in Jinlian Buddist Temple in Great Kinmen, Temple of Buddha and Baozhang Temple in Lieyu.
- The sequential fresco is also referred to as "Daughter's Painting". This is because the names of the daughters and their husbands who funded to rebuild the temple were inscribed on the painting. The frescos combined both Chinese traditional folktale and the background of the funders, reserving the key culture of the locals. Some of the funders were even from Hunan, Mainland China, revealing the special social relation of the locals in the battlefield.
