Scholar Wu's Abode
No. 25, Shangku Village, Lieyu Township, Kinmen County

Constructed in Daoguang era of Qing dynasty.
  • The building is a two section residence with double wings built in Daoguang ear of Qing dynasty. A wall runs across the front of the double wings and main house forming an enclosed square layout for the building.

Introduction
  • The layout of Scholar Wu's Abode focuses on bilateral symmetry and social rank.
  • The layout is similar to the ones in Jinjiang and Quanzhou areas. The house was built with fine materials such as red brick wall, white stone base, clay sculptures, wood window mullions, stone window frames, white gable and swallow-tailed ridge. The finely treated plain "Yingsan" styled gable is delicate as well.
  • Wu's family made their wealth by shipping and salt production. The house was designed for three generations. Each wing includes one living room and two bed rooms for next nuclear family to live. The left wing reserves a room for tea tasting and instrument playing as a leisure space.

County Designated Historic Site
  • Wu Jing Shan built the enclosed square residence with two halls and double wings in the Daoguang era of Qing dynasty.
  • The abode is located at the center of Shangku village. There are two major axes in the layout of Shangku village. One is Wu's ancestral shrine and the two sectioned residence on its back. The other is the axis composed of Wu's abode and Mazu temple. The two axes share the main public area of Shangku village. From top view, Wu's abode follows the terrain and forms a specific landscape together with Aokou, Yantian, banyuechi, Mazu temple, ancestral shrine and back hill.
