Eastern Well of Song Dynasty
Dongling Village, Lieyu Township, Kinmen County

Completed in Song dynasty (1204 A.D.). A centuries old building!
  • In the end of Song Emperor Gaozong's reign (1127-1162), the ancestor of Hong's family became an official of the Song Court. Because of his straightness and disobedience to the influential officials, he was forced to resign and moved to Lieyu. Then Lin's family also came to Lieyu and became prosperous. The well was built more than 800 years ago by Lin Yanzhi (currently there is no relevant document for him) in Song Emperor Ningzong's Jiatai era (1204), then rebuilt in Yuan Emperor Chengzong's Dade era (1305).

Introduction
  • The northern end of the well was inscribed with "In spring of 1204, Lin Yanzhi founded the well", while the inscription on the southern end reads "The well was rebuilt in 1305".
  • Normally, the well hole is smaller than the inner perimeter of the well. But for the Eastern Well, the well hole is the same size as the inner perimeter of the well, which is the largest of its kind in Kinmen (the inner perimeter of the well is 130cm).
  • The base slabs of the antique well were designed in radial formation instead of traditional vertical or horizontal formation.

County Designated Historic Site
  • The well was built long time ago in Song Dynasty. It is with great significance to the development of Doling village. The style and scale of the well are rarely seen in Kinmen.
