In front of General Li's Temple in Shanglin village

Introduction
  • Shanglin Coast Park is located in front of General Li's Temple in Shanglin, was the former site of "General's Temple Harbor". It is said that the Lieyu Mountain was divided into two systems in the past. One is the southern mountain, the other is the northern mountain. The southern mountain ended at the current location of General Li's Temple and became a cliff there. A natural harbor was thus generated. As the "General's Temple" was built on the cliff, it was therefore called "General's Temple Harbor"
  • Shanglin village was originally divided into areas including Dinglin, Xialin (near the port) and Gaocuo (the area of the General Li’s Temple).
  • Kinmen and Lieyu were once lands of salt production. Ming dynasty assigned two salt officers to manage the salt production of Wuzhou and Lieyu. Lieyu Salt Field Bureau was located in Xialin township (now abolished).
  • Since the old days, residents of Lieyu have been building farms for fish-farming along the beach. The oyster farm is now only available in Putou coast and the coast from Hujingtou to Shanglin.
  • The traditional oyster farming is mainly using stone stick to breed oyster. The craftsmanship was introduced to Kinmen from Tong'an and Hui'an by Li Xian Ke, the imperial scholar in Ming dynasty Wanli era, about 300 years ago.
  • In 1949, due to Chinese Civil War, Shanglin coast had since become military control zone.
Attractions
  • Shanglin Coast Park used to be a salt field of Ming dynasty, had been a military control zone during the confrontation between the ROC and the PRC. General Li's Temple was built near by the park in the early Ming Dynasty. As it is located on a raised ground, it is the best place to look into the distance and enjoy the sight of Xiamen harbor.
  • A statue of "Wind Rooster" is standing next to the temple. Oyster farms will be exposed to air on the beach at low water. With sparkling fine sand on the beautiful beach, it has become a wonderful place to relax and refresh.
